Brintons secures AWM funding for wool carpet recycling

Carpet Recycling UK members Brintons and 4Recycling are to join forces to bring recycling wool-rich carpets to land a step closer...

Brintons secured funding from the WRAP/AWM (Advantage West Midlands) Programme in October for technical support in testing and risk assessments for recycling wool rich carpets.

It has now been announced that 4Recycling UK, also part of the Carpet Recycling UK network, have been commissioned to deliver the programme of specialist support. The work will include a literature review, soil and carpet waste analysis and risk assessments. 4Recycling has a team of scientists with considerable experience of the benefits and impacts of recycling organic waste to land, with specific expertise in assessing quality and risks of mixed municipal waste to agricultural land.

This project, which has significant potential for waste reduction, was made possible by Carpet Recycling UK who helped Brintons to identify and apply for the funding to take it forward. Furthermore Brintons were able to access the specialist expertise they needed to realise their objectives through the Carpet Recycling UK network, demonstrating the positive benefits of bringing together market leaders and specialist providers from across the industry.

The WRAP/AWM Business Account Manager was quick to spot the potential in the project, which stands to reduce carpet waste and improve resource efficiency on a huge scale. David Rogers said "We are pleased to be working with Brintons to find effective end uses for carpet waste. This will help to significantly reduce waste to landfill and present economic benefits to businesses across the region."
